St Vincent de Paul

Mission Statement

To seek and find those in need and to serve them through person to person contact, irrespective of age, colour, creed, gender or ideology. We are a small group of parishioners linked to the national and international Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP).

We meet monthly, generally at 8.00 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month in the Parish Room to discuss visits we have made to those in need in our community and to review referrals made from Fr Dominic or other sources and ascertain how we can best assist.

In many cases the visits we make are simply to address the poverty of loneliness but we have limited funds available to assist financial needs and may be able to call on other funding sources within the Vincentian Family.

Some of our members are involved in the local Food Bank and we are able to provide vouchers to individuals or families which will enable those in urgent need to obtain a food parcel.

With Fr Dominic’s support we arrange three masses each year, one on or around All Souls Day, a Healing Mass in May and a mass on Shrove Tuesday. We try to get as many of our less youthful parishioners as we can to these events, providing lifts where necessary, and provide lunch afterwards.

Our annual tea outing to a suitable venue within a few miles of Crowborough seems to be appreciated by all those who attend.

We can also assist with the collection and provision of furniture and, where possible, provide lifts to mass for the less mobile.

Through the International Twinnage scheme we are supporting our members in three parishes in rural India with mutual prayer and correspondence and small but regular financial support. We will also sometimes support small projects in India.
