Important message to those wishing to get married >>>

Dear Parishioners,

We have been asked by Diocese to bring the following to your attention:

If there is anything that you would like to discuss with me, please give me a call and I will be happy to help.

Fr Kevin.

"We would like to remind you of the necessity of a 12-month period of notice for the Sacrament of Marriage. When the lockdown period is over, there will no doubt be couples hoping to move quickly towards their wedding day and we need to be working with them now for that to happen.

While we completely understand the desire to return to normality, it is important to remember that we require couples to have adequate preparation for their benefit. Marriage is not an easy path and in order to obtain the best skills and understanding of what is required to make this lifelong commitment, couples must be given time to discern if this is the correct path for them. This discernment applies equally to those who are living apart, in a celibate relationship, and those who having been living together for years and have children.

Engaged couples should have a copy of the “Are You Ready” document, prepared by Fr Paul Jennings, which, if discussed carefully between the couple,  gives a basis for a good phone/Skype conversation. In terms of other material, it is suggested that couples refer to the Bishops’ Conference Liturgy Office for support:

The marriage text can be found here;

The readings can be found here;

A reflection on the readings here;

If couples are happy to do some work themselves at home, there are a few helpful websites;

The Alpha Pre marriage course that we have been trialling is available online from Holy Trinity Brompton, limited spaces available

Marriage Care has its online course FOCCUS

“For your marriage” has a particular area for engaged couples to reflect on their own preparation;

Smart loving charge for their materials but are available at;"
